LFDT - From Identity-First to Authority Continuity

From Identity-First to Authority Continuity

On March 3, 2026, LF Decentralized Trust hosted the session “From Identity-First to Authority Continuity”, presented by Nicola Gallo.

If you are interested in authority propagation across distributed systems, trust boundaries, and AI agents, you can watch the session and access the presentation materials here.

Presentation summary. This talk argues that the real unsolved problem is not identification, but authority propagation through execution. AI agents do not introduce a new class of security problems; they make existing structural failures impossible to ignore. PIC reframes the model from authority-as-possession to authority-as-continuity: a subject creates authority by expressing intent, and after that authority must only be continued, never re-created. Under this view, every hop in a distributed execution must prove causal continuity, preserve the immutable origin, and respect monotonically non-expanding authority.
